Temporary Political Organizer
Part Time Positions (10 or 20 hours per week) through November 8th, 2024
Job Description:
AFT-Wisconsin is a labor organization comprised of members in the state PK-12 school system, the Wisconsin Technical College System, numerous state agencies, and the University of Wisconsin System. Temporary Political Organizers will work part-time (either 10 or 20 hours per week) with members, potential members, and coalition partners on internal/external organizing in order to build capacity to influence electoral outcomes.
Primary Responsibilities:
Home and worksite visits to members and potential members around their union and the 2024 election
Engage in new employee outreach and member recruitment
Work with current members to build political relationships at their worksite and in their communities through organizing
Activate membership in engaging 1v1 with co-workers and communities, collaborating with local coalition partners, and helping local unions recruit members and non-members to local and regional days of action
COPE fundraising with members
Will be assigned to a region, not necessarily working with just one local
Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with grassroots organizing experience (external union organizing preferred), including membership building, leadership development, and home visits
- Commitment to the labor movement and to AFT-Wisconsin
- General knowledge of education and labor issues
- General knowledge of Wisconsin’s political process and state-specific political issues
- Ability to work with union members across a variety of employment sectors
- Demonstrated ability to write and speak effectively
- Ability to listen actively and frame issues
- Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including weekends
- Must be in possession of an insured vehicle and valid driver’s license
Salary and Benefits:
$25.00 per hour and mileage reimbursement
