Five things you can do this week to stop "right to work"

So-called "right to work" legislation meant to attack private sector union workers is being fast-tracked through the Wisconsin Legislature this week. Our sisters and brothers in the private sector stood shoulder to shoulder with us when Scott Walker attacked us in 2011; now it's our turn to show that we remain united. Here are five things you can do to take action:

1. Contact your legislators

Take thirty seconds to email your state senator and representative, then take two minutes to call their offices through the Wisconsin AFL-CIO action hotline at 1-844-334-3438 to register your opposition to "right to work" legislation. (If you don't know who your legislators are, you can look them up here by entering your address.)

2. Sign the petition

Sign the Wisconsin AFL-CIO's petition to add your name to the thousands of Wisconsinites who oppose this attack on working families.

3. Phonebank in Madison and Milwaukee

There are daily phonebanks to organize union support - union members will be making calls from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day between now and Wednesday (Sunday phonebanks will begin at noon) in Madison (at the South Central Federation of Labor, 1602 S. Park St.) and Milwaukee (at the Wisconsin AFL-CIO, 6333 W. Bluemound Rd.).

4. Rally at the Capitol on Tuesday and Wednesday

We'll be joining our sisters and brothers in the private sector at noon on Tuesday and Wednesday for mass demonstrations. Dust off your picket signs, take your XXXL union t-shirt out of the closet and pull it on over your winter coat, and head to the Capitol to make some noise!

5. Share this information with your friends and family

Please share this link on Facebook and Twitter or by email to get the word out. Republican legislators are trying to fast-track this bill because they're afraid of giving us too much time to organize - we have to move fast!
