During the Spring 2009 Delegate Assembly, action was taken to convene a special session of the Assembly during the Fall 2009 semester in part to consider a constitutional amendment. The Association of University of Wisconsin Professionals (TAUWP) is a statewide local union affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers and AFT-Wisconsin. TAUWP members include faculty and academic staff at UW-Superior, UW-Stout, UW-River Falls, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Green Bay, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Parkside, UW-Whitewater, UW-Platteville, UW-La Crosse, UW-Extension (outside of Madison) and the UW-Colleges.

AFT-Wisconsin is a labor organization representing 17,000 public and private employees in the state of Wisconsin. Formerly called the Wisconsin Federation of Teachers (WFT), AFT-Wisconsin is a chapter of the AFT.
Started primarily as a teachers' union with 1,400 members in 1933, AFT-Wisconsin has grown exponentially and today represents many diverse professionals with over 500 job classifications.
